Bharti Airtel and Twitter tie-up to allow SMS Tweets in India
Twitter the most famous social networking and micro-blogging service has announced a partnership with India’s Largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel. The companies have signed a four-week exclusive agreement, whereby Airtel subscribers can send 140-characters "tweets" at the rates of regular SMS messages and receive them for free.
Existing Twitter users who are wanting to link their device to Twitter account can send and SMS Start to 53000 @ Re 1 per SMS and follow the instructions to complete the linking. Alternately, you can add the device by entering your phone number here http://twitter.com/devices
Whereas, new users can SMS signup to 53000 @ Re 1 per SMS to complete the registration Process.
The Twitter SMS service will likely gain popularity in a country like India, as against the mobile services that require Internet access, due to the fact that very small proportion of mobile phones in the country are Internet-enabled.
