After all, how is somebody going to find you if you do not have a simple web site?

This is not the case however. In fact, I may argue that (especially if you are in the business of providing Internet marketing services) that you may be able to make more money without spending a lot of time on your website – at least in the short run.

Making money providing SEO services is a great way to make money online without having a website. And even if you plan on having a website in the future, it is a great way to past the time and make money working at home while you are working on building a web site out and then monetizing it.

So What Can You Do Without a Website?

There are many ways to make it on the Internet without having to run a website. There are many that are way better than others. If you own a set of skills or have a knowledge base that includes web based properties like being able to program using languages like PHP, JavaScript, and JQuery (tougher scripting languages that might take a month or two to learn on you own), or to be able to build simple websites using HTML and CSS (which can be learned in a week).

Having knowledge in these types of skills will greatly enhance your ability to make money on the web. Even if you don’t want to make money providing these types of services to people – say you don’t want to make a living building web sites for people – you can still use these skills to make money for people in different ways. That being said, it is understandable that everybody that reads this article isn’t going to be quick to jump on the "programming train" right away. Fret not however as there are other ways to make money on the Internet without having to stare at hours of code.

Many of us have heard over and over again about the ways we can make money online being a freelance writer – but there is a huge difference between what is known as volume writing and what is known as actually taking your time to provide quality content as a writer.Volume writing can be a very hard lifestyle. The value of written word is highly decreased when websites are looking for writing that’s sole purpose is to be a keyword collector.

Finding a good writing gig that pays well can be somewhat of a challenge – even if you think you are a great writer. You might as well not even look on sites like Freelancer because there is always somebody that is will to get the job done better, faster, and for a lot less than you.

So where should you look?

Two ways that I would like to share that are great for making money with your writing both have to do with guest posting. Guest posting in the sense of just writing, but also, guest posting in the sense of building links.

Many websites offer up the opportunity to guest post on their site in exchange for money. Other sites might offer up a revenue sharing program (although this is not as lucrative) so that every time you write up an article for their site you can share in the money that the AdSense on that page rakes in.

However, a much more lucrative way to make money with your writing in this fashion is to build links for other companies. There is more than one SEO company out there that is looking to subcontract work out to freelancers, and because of this there is a high demand for freelance writers with a little bit of SEO knowledge and determination to build some links for them and their clients.

This is also beneficial because there are a lot more blogs out there that accept guest posts but do not pay for them. That is because it is very easy for blogs now-a-days to get many free guest posts without having to pay for them – so why would they pay?

You can find these opportunities in a number of ways, but the best way to start looking would be to start using advanced searching operators for looking for guest posts. One of my favorite and most used search operators is:

Keyword (niche) + intitle:"write for us"

It returns all results for pages with "Write For Us" in the title of the page and is a great place to start looking for guest posting opportunities. Other places to start looking are in job boards in forums. There are tons of SEO forums out there that offer jobs in Jobs board sections, and these are the places you want to start searching when you are looking for jobs. Not Freelancing boards like Freelancer.com.

When it comes to providing SEO services like link building, there are a lot of different routes you can’t take. The best types of links are built with great content, so you can always count on starting there.

Making Money Online Without a Website is a post from: Snakebytez

5 Things You Didn’t Know about Facebook

INTERNET

Facebook

market research

TheFacebook

Facebook, the popular social networking site, is a household name these days. Though it started with humble beginnings, it now features almost 800 million users; accounting for around 11 percent of the world’s total population of 7 billion people. Despite it’s success, there are still many things that its users don’t know about this social networking platform.

Majority is Not in the U.S.

Surprisingly, despite being an ‘American invention,’ Facebook is more popular outside the United States than within. Currently, approximately 70 percent of all the users on Facebook do not live in the United States. Of course, Facebook has adapted to this over the years and currently offers the site up in more than 70 different languages.

Part of Day to Day Living

In some countries, Facebook has been integrated into people’s daily lives in more ways than one. For example, in Australia, the court system can serve court notices through Facebook. Furthermore, a Facebook summons, as it is known, is considered legally binding by the Commonwealth of Australia.

Facebook Sells User Information

Historically, Facebook was able to sell its’ users information to different corporations, thus funding the website and its staff. The process involves allowing different companies to harvest information from a person’s daily activities, thus conducting "market research." However, certain countries and even entire continents (i.e., the European Commission) are working to put a stop to this and make it so that users have the choice to ‘opt in’ on these practices.

Facebook or TheFacebook?

When it first got it’s start, Facebook was actually known as "TheFacebook." "TheFacebook" launched on February 4th, 2004 at the domain name "thefacebook.com." In 2005, Facebook dropped ‘the’ and simply became ‘Facebook,’ after purchasing the domain name for $200,000.

Potential Facebook Buyers

To date, 11 different companies have tried to buy out Facebook. This includes the likes of Google (which made two attempts,) MySpace, NBC, Yahoo (which also made two attempts,) AOL, and Microsoft. One company, Viacom, made three separate attempts to purchase the looming social networking giant. However, Mark Zuckerburg has held strong on his company, refusing to sell each and every time.

Today, Facebook is valued at anywhere from 50 billion to 65 billion, depending on who is being quoted. A movie has been made and the site has gone through many different upgrades, all of which have seen some considerable backlash from the users. Despite this, Facebook remains the most popular social networking platform currently and few people know what other secrets lurk behind its doors.

Landon Vanarsdall enjoys writing about news and events affecting the internet. That is Facebook and the rest. Quite funny, but in some way it is true. FACEBOOK has taken over most internet traffic. And it is obvious that it has the greatest number of Registered User.

Day in and out, there have been major upgrade of the Facebook platform and among such upgrade is the Introduction of “LIST” and the new “Subscribe” Button. One of the place to get a better understanding of these two items in the upgrade is the help center of facebook which is accessible via http://www.facebook.com/help but mind you, you need to be a registered member in order to fully access those information.

Below is an explanation to the two items namely the List and subscribe Button.

LISTS:

Lists are optional ways for one to organize and collate friends to easily know the group your friends fall in. For instance in my profile I have list for my Old friend, Church member, Colleagues and among others. List is normally found on the left pane of your homepage. By default, facebook automatically creates three lists for you namely: Close friends, Acquaintances and Restricted.

There are also smart list that are updated automatically and they are based on information you have in common with friends. You can add friends to existing list by moving your mouse pointer on the friend’s button on their page to bring up a pop or dropdown menu from which you can select one of the lists for them. Most people are confused when talking about List and Groups. List are made to categorize your existing friends on the other hand Group are created by people to involve people from around who want to share ideas or common interest.

SUBSCRIBE:

By default, we have always been subscribed to our friends such that we are kept updated with whatever they are doing such as their comments and wall posts, photo upload and video upload. The new subscribe button helps us to follow or get update from people who are not even our friends. Renowned people like journalist, actors and actress, celebrities and political figures normally have a lot of friends that we can’t have them as friends. Due to this and many other reasons, we can manually subscribe to such people to get updates from their profile.

This can be done by moving your mouse pointer on the person’s subscribe button on his profile and selecting the number of update to follow with respect to the person you are subscribing to. You can also set for people who are subscribed to you such that you restrict those you see your public updates.

If you wish to manage settings of your subscribers, Click “Subscribers” from your profile timeline and click the “edit settings” that comes next to subscribers. From this point, you can click on Comments and set for people who are not even your friends to comment on your post. And you also have to option to make settings for your notification with respect to your subscribers. By default both are on “ Friends of Friends” mode.

So this is what we really mean when we are talking about the LIST and the New SUBSCRIBE button.

This article is written by James Anderson and he works at CouponBaker, a Coupon Website. However, the hosting service itself often offers either a clunky interface or no interface at all.

The best solution for most people is to use one of the free email desktop clients, granting the joy of a usable interface and the many advantages of professional email hosting. Here are five of our favorite email clients.

5. Mulberry

This highly diverse, capable, and powerful client has just about everything you could ever want. It supports all the major email server types, is surprisingly fast for its features, and is stable to boot.

The interface is a tad cluttered and challenging to use, but once you’re past the learning curve you’re sure to enjoy it.

4. Pegasus

Pegasus has been a favorite for many years, and there are dozens of reasons why. Among the more important are its intense security features and well-rounded capabilities.

Its interface is a bit confusing to navigate, and lacks quick-click controls, but the trade-off is well worth it for many.

3. Alpine

If you want something incredibly simple and lightweight, Alpine is the way to go. This Pine based message system is the lightest of the lightweights, and comes with the most basic of features.

It has great customization options for anyone who wants to expand on either the appearance or functionality. For the minimalist, customization-obsessed, or anyone who’s running off very low computer specs, this is the way to go.

2. Opera

Opera allows you to do everything that’s really important, but it also integrates a lovely RSS feed feature. This means that you can import information from any source that puts out a feed of their own, including many stores, sites, and blogs. Opera Mail also features great extras like a "low bandwidth mode" that allows for bonuses like:

simplified message retrieval

access to multiple accounts

offline access to your messages and composition tools

advanced filtering and organization options

an adaptive mail system that learns from your habits

follow/ignore options

The only real downfall is the lack of encryption capabilities and a lackluster HTML editor.

1. Thunderbird

The brief way to describe Thunderbird is that "anything they can do, it can do better." Brought to you by the same company that brought you Firefox, TB is likely the most secure platform out there. It doesn’t take a hit when it comes to features, either. Thunderbird has a great email editor, an RSS feed, superb organization options, a tight-mesh spam filter, dozens of features, and a user-friendly user interface.

Very few people have found much to complain about within TB. The primary complaints come off more as suggestions on features that could be added, and almost all of the reviews have stated that they’re simply impressed with the platform. For most users, Thunderbird is the way to go.

Professional hosting may seem like an impossibility for those without knowledge or resources, but this information and the items mentioned in it should get you on the road. There are also plenty of other free email clients, so feel free to go out and experiment.

Jessy is a freebie geek, open-source enthusiast and blogger for Life Insurance Finder, the free web-based app to compare life insurance online.

Top 5 Best FREE Email Clients (Windows) is a post from: Snakebytez

Hackers have attacked uTorrent.com

INTERNET

hackers

Security Shield

uTorrent.com

The popular websites uTorrent.com and Bittorrent.com has been hacked by cyber criminals. The regular software download was replaced with a fake antivirus program – Security Shield. It’s a scareware program that imitates being a regular antivirus application but in fact has nothing to do with providing good security. Security Shield pretends running a system scan and other functions of the antivirus programs. The real goal of this program is to make computer users purchase this application and get money from them this way.

Users who might have tried to download a program of uTorrent.com have probably received a an alert stating that their system is infected and asking to purchase Security Shield in order to clean your system from infections. Purchasing this fake application is equal to throwing your money to the wind as it doesn’t work not even close to a security tool.

The administrators of uTorrent.com have apologized for their users for this situation and recommended to run a security scan for those who have been trying to get a download of uTorrent.com.

Since uTorrent.com is one of he most popular torrent website it has already gained trust among the users. This attack by cyber criminals was unexpected but, luckily, uTrorrent.com has managed to fix that. Make sure to take care of your computer’s protection. What do you do?
Handling this situation can be a delicate matter. If you delete the posts on your wall, fans will assume you have something to hide. But if you leave the post as is, this negativity could grow and even faster—infecting your healthy, good natured fans.

The following are three steps to handling this kind of negative feedback on Facebook.

Step # 1 Identify who will respond to negative feedback

Responding to negative feedback is an art, not a chore. Make sure the person do the responding is up to the task and is able to take the heat. Naturally, whoever responds to the negative feedback will absorb brunt of the fan’s rage. Be sure that the person you choose understands this, and doesn’t take things too personally.

Step # 2 Identify the type of feedback

Negative feedback comes in a few different flavors.
Straight forward problems: someone has an issue with your product or service. Maybe their product broke or a representative made a mistake.
Constructive Criticism: someone gives you tips on how to improve your service. Usually sent by only the most loyal fans.
Merited Attack: your company, not an individual representative, definitely wronged a fan. Now that fan is irate.
Spam: Competitors or random businesses launch an attack to promote their own business.
Once you’ve identified the type of feedback, you can start to address the concerns.

Step # 3 Respond based on the type of feedback

Once you’ve identified the type of feedback and who will respond to said feedback, it’s finally time to respond. Straight forward problems deserve straight forward responses. Remember, you’re entire fan base is watching how you handle these questions. Be helpful, even if it’s recommending another service. Doing so will give your company more credibility.
Constructive criticism should be celebrated. Thank them for their comment, and feature your response to that comment in a blog post or somewhere prominently on your page. Remember, the ones who give constructive criticism tend to be your most loyal fans. If they’ve discovered these issues, then others have discovered them already. Post your response in a public arena for all to see.
Merited Attacks are a bit trickier to handle. If a fan is just ranting, it’s best to take the conversation offline. Tell them that their concern is important to them, and invite them to send you an email for more detail. If they continue to rant without responding to your messages, then treat the post like it’s Spam—and report them as Spam to Facebook. Let’s be clear, never just delete a post. Just deleting the post allows the commenter to comment again. If you label them as spam, however, they will not be able to comment on your page.

Step # 4 Follow up

After giving your response to negative feedback—particularly if it’s in a public place—make sure you follow up. It gives the impression that the complaint was an isolated incident, and, most importantly, that your company is doing everything in its power to ensure that this never happens again.
What’s the craziest negative feedback that you’ve ever received? And how did you handle it? Are there any other tips you’d give? From dating to business and even travel, Facebook is growing to have an even stronger role in our everyday lives.

Dating: 2% of all US marriages come from relationships starting through online dating, or so some platforms have claimed. As dating services are based upon filling in personal information and being matched to people with similar answers, they are inherently similar to the service Facebook provides in a broader way. It would be interesting then to find a statistic for marriages started through Facebook, as introduction by friends is still the number one way for people to find their partners, and Facebook aren’t even charging for it!

Business: Industry news may mean reading the FT, relevant blogs, and news websites, but increasingly it also means following Facebook updates and tweets. By following the updates of competitors, it is simpler to see what directions they are developing in, but also to communicate and spot opportunities for collaboration. For new companies there is an abundance of market information to learn from, and the chance to really a see a demand directly from what people are saying. Not to mention of course the far more fine-tuned and tailored advertising options that let them then get through to potential customers.

Jobs: Recruitment companies are increasingly making sure they have a real presence on Facebook as the job hunting process moves more and more onto social media, especially with new graduates. Web savvy recruitment services are using platforms such as Facebook to create a more personal environment, with more video. Black Bag creative recruitment have a video tab with each of their directors speaking about skills and experiences, as well uploading plenty of images, apps and challenges.

Politics: Government agencies are getting more involved with Facebook, as it becomes obvious that there is potential for really getting in touch with people and gaining a sense of their opinions. Opinion research no longer requires people to fill out extensive forms, which then have to be processed. The US Navy have been using their pages to post questions and polls to really get their followers involved, as well as keeping the stream updated with all of the latest news. Rather than reading about it in the papers, Facebook can give a direct route to government activities.

Travel: As travel companies follow the business trend of making use of Facebook, they mostly stick to the standard method of posting updates and offers. Skyscanner however, have found a way to really integrate into the Facebook world and be much more than just another business page. The Skyscanner Flight Search Page allows you to simply post on the wall a simple request such as ‘UK to Canada in October’ and it will ping you back the best price for that month. Of course you don’t have to search only for prices on a monthly basis – you can be as flexible or as rigid as you want. You could then proceed to the Canada flights page on the Skyscanner website to fulfill your booking, or, maybe share the result with your friends and see if anyone else wants to go.

It’s hard to ignore how Facebook is changing things. Whether that’s work or travel, politics or dating, Facebook is there. Welcome to the Facebook era.

5 Ways Facebook Is Completely Changing Things is a post from: Snakebytez

Don’t Move Data From Computer to Computer – Move It To The Cloud

INTERNET

cloud computing

computing

data storage

information technology

Up until recently, most companies have opted to keep their data storage in house as the technology for cloud computing was limited and outdated. All of this has changed as recent technological developments have made this service more invaluable and practical than ever. Many successful businesses have realized the many benefits of this storage option including automatic synchronization of documents, reliable backups, lower overhead costs and remote access of data. The question then is it right for your business?

Cost:

The first factor to consider is the costs of each system. In house storage via servers or NAS (networked attached storage) device costs can vary, but often times businesses find that cloud storage is less expensive. Another thing to remember about in house storage – unlike a cloud-based system, in house systems have a limited amount of memory and upgrades can be very expensive. While it may be slightly cheaper to maintain your own storage systems in the long run, cloud storage won’t require you to buy all new storage equipment and software every few years to stay up-to-date.

Also, cloud computing software and hardware is maintained by cloud storage provider, meaning your IT staff won’t necessarily need to waste time managing the back-up systems for your company…and that means your IT staff can focus on bigger projects.

Data Security:

A second key component, and perhaps the most important feature, is the secure nature of data stored on a cloud server. Many of these cloud storage companies contain multiple levels of security for any information that is downloaded onto their servers. They also contain multiple backups for all data so as a corruption at one location will not result in permanently lost data. Contrast these benefits with local storage, where a fire or other physical damage to your office or network room could permanently destroy data.

Remote Access:

Cloud storage offers one more distinct advantage over local storage, remote access. Employees do not need to worry about having files they need on their computer – whether they work at home or from a different office. Also, management can use utilized tiered access to data for all employees in all locations thus allowing sensitive documents to stay confidential. Automatic updates and syncing also means that every member of any project will stay on the same level regardless of their location. Finally, relocating your corporate headquarters won’t result in massive data downtimes for your other branches.

Cloud storage has become a huge industry and a powerful tool for businesses around the world, with major technology companies such as Apple, Google, and Amazon competing to provide cloud storage services. Businesses are benefiting from this competition by taking advantage of secure, affordable, and efficient systems of data storage. Cloud storage is the wave of the future.

Author Jason Lancaster writes for TRCGS.com, the website for TRC Global Solutions, a corporate relocation provider.

Don’t Move Data From Computer to Computer – Move It To The Cloud is a post from: Snakebytez

Could Facebook Be Better? Facebook, though popular and the de facto social site that many first sign up for, has been a thorn to many of its users side. Between the constant updating of the privacy policy (which seems to be updated at least once a month), as well as the ads and games that drive users nuts, many that have flocked to G+ are just an official release away from dropping Facebook forever.

But what if you could make Facebook better? That’s what an extension called Better Facebook wants to achieve. Available for most of the popular browsers (sorry IE folks, not for you just yet), Better Facebook does what users have wanted to do for some time now on the site.

Take back their control.

Giving users back control of their social network is something that many users want; Better Facebook is easily installed and features several controls for FB fans, such as muting posts, putting games in separate tab, and even getting rid of those constant ads and ‘people Facebook thinks you know’ (which in most cases, you don’t). If this reminds you G+ers of something, you’re right; it’s the same type of control that G+ users have and aspects that many of those also on Facebook wish the popular site had.

Mark as Read/Mute – one of the hassles of FB is seeing posts that you’ve already read or those that have gotten out of control and away from you within your stream. Better Facebook allows you to mark (and hide) those posts you’ve already read, as well as mute those long posts that are too much or not interesting to you.

Friend Circles – the popularity of Google+ has many things, but one of the most popular is that of Circles. Just like in real life where you have different groups of different friends, G+ allows you to group those folks into different groups as well. This is the major contention users of Facebook have; you may want to post that awesome weekend in Vegas photo, but that means EVERYONE on FB will see it – your mom, your grandma, and even your boss. Better Facebook however brings the G+ circle to Facebook, by allowing you to group friends. You can now chose which people you want to view which post or picture, without the hassle of making a group.

Hide Annoying Notifications – do you care that your mom changed her profile picture? Or that your best friend from elementary school now likes Target? The answer is probably not and Better Facebook understands that. You can now stop all of that nonsense by hiding those notifications.

Games – ah, the number one reason Facebook users never get anything done. While your friend may care about saving Farmville from those Vampire Werewolves, you don’t and nothing clogs up a news feed than requests that you help them on their farm or beat their score in whatever new game comes up. Better Facebook not only gives you a separate tab to juggle all those games you play, but for the people who don’t care what so ever, they can block your requests.

Facebook will never actually go under, no matter how many people wish for it, and with Better Facebook, FB addicts can now take control over what they have on their page. Not only can they hide notifications, they separate friends for better posting, and includes a feature that only Twitter and MySpace allowed – background themes! Yes, you can now make Facebook look like you actually own your page by either using the themes given by Better Facebook or customizing your own.

Dee Carter is a marketing specialist and tech addict from Brisbane, Australia. Here are 15 tips to staying safe on the Internet.

1. The first and most basic tip would be to protect your computer. In order to do this you will need some Anti-virus software (to protect against viruses), anti-spyware software (to protect against people looking into your files) and a firewall (flags up possible unsafe data transmissions). Although you can get a programme for each, there are many programmes on the market that will do all three.

2. The above only work as long as you keep them updated as criminals are constantly coming up with new ways of hacking and bypassing security. Programmes normally give you a reminder when they need updating so don’t ignore it.

3. When shopping online, make sure that the site you are using displays the secure shopping logo and https:// preceding the web address. Payment over the Internet is more secure than using your card details over the phone, by post or in a restaurant. Here are some examples of safe shopping logos to look for:

4. Chat rooms are a great way to meet people and talk without ever having to meet face to face. However, this can cause all sorts of problems, as people do not have to give true information. Stay safe by not giving out any personal information and use a nickname instead of a real name so there is no chance of tracing you. Finally, never agree to meet someone you have met online before talking it through with someone else and letting him or her know where and when you are intending to meet. It’s always advisable to meet in a public place and, if possible, take a friend along with you too.

5. Social networking sites are somewhat similar to chat rooms. Remember that whatever information you put on these sites may be read by people who you don’t want to read them. This can lead to trouble at school, work or with friends and family. Always think about how well you know a person before accepting them as a friend and always remember to check and set-up any privacy settings available to you.

6. If you have young children using the internet, why not think about a programme like Net Nanny which allows you to set controls and websites which you deem to be suitable for your child. Programmes like this also allow you to set different controls for different children if they are different ages and look at different sites. Net Nanny is also developing software for iPhones, iPads and Android.

7. Emails are now the preferred way for scammers to contact you. Called phishing (pronounced fishing), emails generally look very professional and ask for you to confirm certain details. These fraudsters only need a few small pieces of information to then set up a fake identity in your name and apply for credit cards or loans. If you are unsure, always give the company a ring and they will be happy to clarify whether it was a genuine email or not.

You may also check our previous article, How to detect and prevent Phishing scam.

8. When setting up a new password, the stronger then better. The best passwords are those that contain letters and numbers. Don’t be tempted to use your birthday, address or mother’s maiden name as these details are easily retrieved from public records or sites like Facebook and Myspace.

9. As well as setting strong passwords, change them regularly. It might seem a bit of a pain to have to remember them all but it will be safer in the long run.

10. If you have a wireless (Wi-Fi) network, make sure that it is password protected. If it’s not and someone else uses it for illegal activity such as illegal file sharing you can be held responsible. Not only this but they could gain access to your computer and find passwords and personal information.

11. Don’t open an email if you don’t know the sender and even more importantly, don’t open any attachments unless you are 100% sure of the sender as these could download a virus which could steal personal information stored on your computer. This applies to email enabled phones as well.

12. If you are allowing your children to use the Internet. Give them time limits and make sure the computer/laptop is within your eyesight so you can keep an eye on what they are looking at.

Read more about it in this article: Setting up Computer for family internet safety.

13. When you join a new online community of social network site, make sure you find out as much as you can about its privacy settings. Change them to your specifications and make sure you check them regularly and sites can make updates and sometimes this means your settings are restored to the originals without your knowledge.

14. With the use of mobile phones to surf the web and check emails, these are no longer same from hackers and scammers either. People can access private information on your phone via hacking Bluetooth connections, send a smartphone virus via email, text message or bluetooth and access passwords for accounts used on device while using the Internet. This is why companies like Kaspersky have now produced an Internet mobile security programme available to purchase for approximately £20.00.

15. My final tip whether using your laptop, home computer or mobile to access the internet is, never use the remember me function as this stores passwords and usernames which in the event of the item being stolen or lost, the new “owner” would be able to access all your details. This is particularly important when using online banking.

Is your internet fast enough?
